We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, promoting horticulture-related activities and enjoyment of gardening. Proceeds of the Plant Sale go to a variety of community initiatives, including scholarships and grants, children's learning activities, and other garden-related community projects.

Free children's planting area

We like to grow new gardeners! Kids can dig in the dirt to plant a flowering pot, then decorate the pot with bugs, whirligigs and other trinkets. All materials are provided free of charge. Kids carry their creation home in a converted milk jug.  

Healthy plants

Plants are grown/dug up by Master Gardeners. 

We sell locally grown plants at reasonable prices (1/3 to 1/2 of greenhouse prices).

Greenhouse plastic pot recycling

Recycle your greenhouse pots by dropping them in our bin located on the south side of Lamb's Fresh Market, 227250 Rib Mountain Drive, Wausau 54401.

If you’re looking for a deer-resistant pollinator plant, consider anise hyssop. Anise hyssop is a herb that grows to a height of 2-3 feet and bears spikes of lavender purple blooms in the summer. The plant has a licorice smell so deer will not eat these plants. They grow well in most soils and will tolerate some shade.

Bee Balm (aka Monarda) grows well in full sun or light shade. It grows to a height of 2 to 4 feet and spreads easily.  The colorful blooms are a favorite of pollinators, including bees and hummingbirds. Flower colors include pink, red, and light purple.  Blooms are summer into fall and are long-lasting.

Big Leaf Ligularia is a gorgeous, showy shade plant that forms a clump of large, rounded, heart-shaped leaves. It grows 3 to 5 feet tall and spreads 3 to 4 feet. In summer and early fall, it bears clusters of orange-yellow flowers held above the foliage.

A wonderful plant that can grow up to two feet and features clusters of pink blooms.  it offers wonderful color later in the season from August to September. And the bees love this perennial.  It's fun to watch them crawl in the puffy blooms for pollination. This plant can grow in most soils and in full sun to partial shade.

Mayapple is a native wildflower with umbrella-shaped leaves that produce a solitary white flower in April to May. Once bees pollinate the flowers, a lemon-shaped fruit forms. Mayapple plants grow primarily through underground horizontal rhizomes, forming dense colonies over time. They can grow to a height of 12-18 inches.


Please note that

Please note that all parts of this plant, except the fruit, contain podophyllotoxin which is highly toxic if consumed for humans, cats and dogs.

Meadowsweet (Queen of the Prairie) is a tall, hardy native perennial featuring fragrant, cotton candy-pink plumes on stems 4–8 feet high. Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, rich soil, it blooms in mid-summer, attracts pollinators, and is ideal for rain gardens or sunny, wet borders.

Woodland Ginger (aka Wild Ginger) is a native, shade-loving perennial ground cover recognized by its large, heart-shaped, velvety green leaves. It forms a dense, 6-inch-tall carpet in moist, deciduous forests, with small, reddish-brown, pitcher-shaped flowers appearing in early spring beneath the foliage.

Bleeding Heart is one of the great joys of the spring garden, featuring heart-shaped blooms fluttering in a row on a long stem. The plants can grow to a height of up to four feet with a spread of up to two feet. This long lasting, disease free plant does well in the shade garden including in a rock garden or woodland setting.

Cranesbill (aka Hardy Geranium) grow well in full sun, partial shade, and light shade. Blooms continue from spring to summer with colors including pink, purple, and white.  They grow in mounds, reaching up to 36 inches in spread and 10 to 36 inches in height.  They can be included in rock gardens, woodland gardens, and mass-planted as ground cover.

Forsythia is a shrub grown for its yellow flowers in early spring. These shrubs are easy to grow and do well in full sun with well drained soil. They can grow quite large and may be used as screen plants in landscapes.

Lady’s Mantle is a charming, low-growing perennial prized for its soft, scalloped leaves and airy sprays of chartreuse-yellow flowers. Ideal for borders and edging, it thrives in part shade and adds delicate texture to the garden from late spring into early summer.

Siberian Iris prefers full sun but will tolerate light or dappled shade. It grows 2 to 4 feet tall and flowers in early summer. Bloom colors include many shades, including purple, blue, and white. The sharp, vertical slash of iris foliage adds nice variety to every garden bed.

Virginia Bluebells are a native wildflower found in moist woodlands.  This ephemeral perennial plant comes up early in the spring and bears blue, bell-shaped flowers.  It is hardy in zones 3 to 9.

Yellow Archangel Lamium is a vigorous, shade-loving groundcover with silvery variegated leaves and bright yellow flowers in spring. It spreads quickly to brighten shady areas and is valued for its colorful foliage and low-maintenance care.
